GROWING A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
Concerned with the well-being of the local communities, Kumpulan Pengurusan Kayu-Kayan Trengganu Sdn. Bhd. (“KPKKT”) and Pesama Timber Corporation Sdn Bhd (“Pesama”) has been carrying out social impact assessment exercises since 2009 in the effort to identify the problems faced by the communities and to determine appropriate mitigation strategies to address them.
The issues raised include river water quality, damage to crops by wildlife and road safety especially to school children. Specific mitigation measures were proposed and taken by KPKKT via regular consultation with the relevant authorities and local communities. As part of its continuous improvement process, KPPKT has taken the initiative to review and update the earlier impact assessment which is exercised annually.
